CelticFest Vancouver
In order to celebrate a culture as old and as rich as that of the Irish, CelticFest can be nothing less than extravagant. With a variety of Gaelic traditions to choose from, those who are Irish, and those who are only Irish on St. Patrick's Day, will find Vancouver CelticFest a delight.
Drawing upon 5,000 years of Irish history, Vancouver CelticFest presents a cultural celebration abounding in variety and splendor. Since its inception in 2004, CelticFest has attracted over 250,000 fans to the five-day festival, which features over 60 performances and events. Adhering to the CelticFest society’s mission, the festival educates the public on Celtic heritage in an engaging and jolly manner.
Whether looking for family-fun or a taste of Irish spirits, CelticFest hosts an array of events, of which 70% are free. Lunch-time concerts feature fiddlers and merry musicians, while late night bars offer authentic Irish whiskey. No barhopping would be complete without a traditional pint of Guiness and will prove to be the fastest way of learning the Irish culture. Other events include pipe performances, cello workshops, face painting, and theatre performances.
The festival closes with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 18th. Over 2,000 people are expected to be marching in this year’s parade, many of whom will display their fire-brigading, pipe playing, Irish dancing, and stilt walking talents. The parade attracts people of all walks of life to partake in the Celtic celebration. Beginning on the corner of Howe and Drake, the parade will weave through the streets of downtown Vancouver for several hours and is bound to bring out the Irish spirit in everyone.
