The Shangri-la Hotel, Vancouver: Asian Themes and High Style

This past week, I visited Vancouver for the first time. I was amazed by the attractions in the area, especially the Vancouver Aquarium and Stanley Park. However, the aspect of my trip that will make Vancouver standout in memory was my hotel: the Shangri-la Hotel, Vancouver.

The Shangri-la Hotel, Vancouver: Asian Themes and High Style

As soon as I entered the lobby of the Shangri-la Hotel, I was absorbed by an elegant, modern atmosphere. Glass chandeliers, contemporary couches, and a large, beautiful piece of Asian artwork give the lobby a distinct feel I hadn't expected, but greatly appreciated.

I get a little nervous when I fly (ok, a lot nervous), so right after checking in I decided to visit CHI, The Spa at Shangri-la. I splurged on a relaxing "West Coast Wave Massage" with a steam shower afterward. The "travel gunk" feeling was completely gone, along with the knots I'd put into my shoulders during takeoff and landing

After my spa session, I ventured up to the room. My "Deluxe Room" featured a comfortable bed with Asian-themed décor, enormous windows, and a 42-inch television. Even the bathroom felt luxurious with its marble and granite surfaces.

I loved the "Deluxe Room", but the Shangi-la offers a range of room options depending on your budget, including the Executive Balcony King Room or the Executive Suite.

I then went to dinner at Market by Jean-Georges, the Shangri-la's restaurant. Luckily I had made a reservation, because it was a weekend evening and the restaurant was very busy. I ate in the outdoor dining area overlooking Vancouver—an amazing view. I tried the "Qualicum Beach Scallops" entrée, while the couple dining next to me indulged in the restaurant's tasting menu. All three of us left extremely satisfied.

Overall, the Shangri-la Hotel, Vancouver guaranteed that my experiences inside the hotel would be as memorable as my experiences out in the city itself.
