The Wedgewood Hotel: Great Food and Springtime Deals

I usually make it to Vancouver once or twice a year for a quick business trip or outdoorsy vacation. It's one of my favorite cities to visit, and I'm certain there aren't too many other places in the world where you can close a meeting on Friday, ski on Saturday, and surf on Sunday before catching a flight home. On my last trip, I stayed at The Wedgewood Hotel, and found it was the perfect boutique hotel to accommodate my hectic visit.

The Wedgewood is located in the heart of Robson Square—one of the most beautiful parts of the city. I imagine the other boutique hotels in Vancouver are enviable of the Wedgewood's prime spot, which comes with gardens, waterfalls, and easy access to all of Vancouver. My trip sent me crisscrossing the metropolitan area, and the ability to make pit-stops back at my room was a godsend.

The two things that really tipped the scales in the Wedgewood's direction for me was their paradise-like spa and the Bacchus Restaurant and Lounge. I spent a day shredding powder at Whistler early on in my trip and, of course, took an epic fall that left me horrendously sore and limping around like Quasimodo. I went to the Wedgewood Spa for a deep tissue massage, which was excruciating at the time, but left me feeling like a new, upright person.

Bacchus is something else, too. The French restaurant has a large canvas painting of the Greek god of wine (which the bar is named after) hanging over the main area, and the food and wine lives up to its namesake. I shared a bottle of the Wolf Blass Cabernet with my business partner—which we both enjoyed immensely—and had the Roasted Breast of Brome Lake Duck for myself. It came in a wine cherry sauce that will haunt my dreams in the best way possible. If you're in Vancouver and don't stay at the Wedgewood Hotel (although I sincerely recommend you do) at least treat yourself to a meal at Bacchus.

While I was in town, I heard about the upcoming Pacific Rim Whale Festival taking place in mid-March, and it sounded so enthralling I decided to book another stay at the Wedgewood to partake in the Cetacea-oriented fun. I was pleased to find that The Wedgewood is running a Spring Break Getaway promotion for the month of March, and guests who stay for three nights (or longer) receive a complimentary European buffet breakfast, valet parking, and hand-carved chicken dinner at Bacchus.

Needless to say, I booked for three nights.
